EXECUTIVE AND LEADERSHIP COACHING
Patricia is an executive coach who works primarily in the field of General Practice. Patricia qualified as a Coaching for Performance Accredited Coach (CfPAC) in 2008 and again in 2019. She is also an ILM accredited coach.
Patricia is an HR professional (Fellow of the CIPD) who has worked since 1993 in General Practice. For the first 11 years Patricia worked as a practice business manager and a partner of a large training practice in Hertfordshire, and for the next 14 years she ran an independent HR consultancy providing advice and training courses in HR and organisational management in General Practice. Patricia also worked as a recruitment consultant, facilitator and performance coach. She has spoken at national and regional conferences and has had many articles published in professional and medical journals about managing people and teams.
Patricia has now retired from consultancy work in order to focus on executive and leadership coaching. Her specialist experience in General Practice provides the perfect background to understand the issues that leaders in primary care, both clinical and non-clinical, face.
There is sometimes misunderstanding about the difference between coaching and mentoring – terms which have become interchangeable. Mentors tend to be more expert in a field and they advise and guide by sharing their own experience. Coaches are non-directive and ask instead of telling. Through the coach’s skilled process of asking the right questions, the person being coached (the coachee) is able to enhance self-awareness in order to find solutions to take themselves forward and develop their potential.
Many GPs and practice managers find it difficult to focus on their own needs, putting others before themselves. The stressful pace of work and the responsibility, either clinical or managerial, can lead to a feeling of being out of control and an inability to see a way forward. Being able to talk this through with a non-judgemental coach provides clarity of the key areas which need to change and helps to create a road map to achieve that change. Coaching can be challenging as it breaks down limiting beliefs which are not serving the coachee and keeps the coachee on track to reach their goals. The results can be life changing and truly inspiring.
If you are interested in coaching, Patricia offers a half an hour free coaching so you can find out how it feels and decide if it is right for you.
The benefits of coaching include:
- Helping you to work out where you are at the moment in your life.
- Identifying the important areas where you need to make changes.
- Creating some exciting goals and helping you to achieve them.
- Supporting and encouraging you to take action when needed.
- Helping you to feel more in control of your life.
- Helping you become more positive.
- Developing self-awareness and self-confidence.
- Helping you to deal with situations rather than ignoring them.
- Improving your work-life balance.
- Helping you do different things, or just do what you do even better.
Patricia is based in her 400-year-old cottage in Hertfordshire and she spends some of the year in her converted farmhouse in Tuscany. Patricia usually provides coaching over the telephone (or by Skype, Whatsapp or FaceTime) as this is often more flexible and convenient for clients. Coaching sessions can take place in the evening or weekend if this is preferable. A course of six sessions of coaching is recommended usually once a week or once a fortnight, although this can be adapted according to the needs of the coachee.
